Traverse over 50 miles through John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park to summit one of the most inspiring mountains in the Sierra, Mt. Goddard (13,560′). This 5 night, 6 day trip includes more than 10 miles of off-trail trekking, crossing two 12,000’ passes.
Mt. Goddard is a massive, awe-inspiring mountain located in one of the most remote sections in Kings Canyon National Park. This is mountain that summer dreams are made of. Standing at over 13,560′, the mountain sits atop the relatively isolated Goddard Divide and arguably commands the most extensive view of the High Sierra. From the top, one can view nearly every major peak in the High Sierra. A sight to behold. Our looped route from Courtright Reservoir will traverse Goddard Canyon, Black Cap Basin and the LeConte Divide. While no experience is needed, this trek is best suited for experienced backpackers ready to push the limits of what is possible, and fit and motivated individuals with an appetite for big challenges and true adventure.
In addition to having a great adventure through one of California’s most majestic landscapes, you will also learn essential backcountry skills so that you can begin to plan expeditions on your own. Participants and guides will be working together to navigate the trails, set-up campsites, and prepare meals.

Our venues were intentionally selected — they are among my all-time favourite spots and they tend to be wild and dramatic, and occasionally humbling. I have been leading groups through the High Sierra since 2017. I know these areas well and will share information about the local flora and fauna as well as the indigenous and human history.
How Much?
Total trip cost is £1430. A deposit of £500 will secure your place on the trip. With the remaining balance due 60 days before the event. Typical group size of 7, including two guides. Maximum group size of 12, including two guides.

SAVE TIME
Planning a backpacking trip is time-consuming, especially if it’s a new or complicated location. This can be a deterrent to getting out. I mostly relieve you of this task, which is ideal for those who have more money than time. I select the location, set the dates, plan the route, share a gear list, create the maps, obtain the permits, and package your breakfasts and dinners.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Morning departure, pack-check, overnight on trail
Day 2 - Post Corral to Hell For Sure Lake
Day 3 - Hell For Sure Lake to Martha Lake
Day 4 – Martha Lake to Rainbow Lake, with summit of Mount Goddard
Day 5 - Traverse of Black Cap Basin, then drop to Kings River
Day 6 - Kings River to Courtright Reservoir. Transport to Fresno.
